If you tried writing, got in the swing of it for a bit, then stumbled and quit, my pet pig has a life and writing lesson for you. Listen up if you tried writing and quit.
This is my mini pig, Willow. She’s tired. (Click the pic to see the video. Volume up to hear a snore!)
She’s tired because this week she learned to climb stairs!
She slipped a few times but started getting the hang of it on day three. Then she started… well, do pigs gallop? Run?
It was more majestic than running. She was flying up and down those stairs!
And then she slipped.
She got her back legs stuck in the gap between the steps (which was hilarious for us, but mildly traumatic for her).
We covered up the gaps pretty quick and started again.
No go.
Piggy say no.
It took some coaxing (and a metric ton of cheerio treats) but we managed it eventually.
And after a few small stumbles, she picked right up where she left off.
She was a majestic flying piggy again in no time, galloping up and down those stairs like a bacon-flavored boss!
So what’s this have to do with writing?
Now that I’m the weird pig lady who snuggles a pet mini pig, I’m going to relate all my writing lessons back to piggies…
If you tried writing, got in the swing of it for a bit, then stumbled and quit…
YOU CAN WRITE AGAIN.
It might take a few tries to get back into the swing of it. You might have to bribe yourself with cheerio treats.
But you CAN be a majestic, galloping writer, flying through the pages with pride.
Get back on the stairs again. Give it another try. It might be tiring, but you’ll be proud of yourself.
Then you can take a nap like Willow here.

Does writing have to be lonely?
Many of us have this mental image of the stoic writer sitting alone at their desk, purging their inner thoughts onto the page, privately bleeding their soul out until they forge the right words into existence.
