I don’t know about you, but sometimes, my life feels a little too serious. Between pandemic bullshit, a packed work schedule (which I love, but still, busy, busy), managing my health, and keeping my kiddo sane during lockdown, I sometimes need to make a conscious effort to laugh. Sound familiar? Luckily, it doesn’t take much to make me giggle. I don’t think anyone would describe my humor as sophisticated. I’m more of a cheesy-dad-joke kinda gal. Here are a few writerly things making me smile lately. I hope they do the same for you!

A new release: The Crow Folk by Mark Stay
For my own writing development, I'm a member of author Mark Stay's writing academy, so I was excited to read his new book, The Crow Folk.
The cover says, "June 1940. Rationing. Blackouts. Witchcraft." And it goes on, "For fans of Lev Grossman and Terry Pratchett comes this delightful novel of war, mystery and a little bit of magic . . ." And that pretty much sums it up!
I highly recommend this fun, cozy read. Find it here.
An oldie but goodie: Choose Your Own Autobiography by Neil Patrick Harris
Per the cover, "Neil Patrick Harris shares intimate and hilarious stories about everything from his early days in LA, life on the How I Met Your Mother set, secrets from backstage at award shows, and family life with David, Harper, and Gideon."
He also guides you through a magic card trick which I did at the dinner table as I listened to the audiobook—and it actually worked!!! Get the book (and magic) here.

But dwelling in frustration doesn’t do us any good. So here’s a novel idea. Why don’t we forgive ourselves? Read more…
Let your writing goals be small
I am so over New Year’s resolutions. I know we’re barely a week into 2021, but I already firmly think New Year’s writing goals can go suck themselves. Instead, I’m here to say let your writing goals be small. You don’t need to write a billion words today. Read more…
