What do I want to write about? What books do I want to work on? What excites me? I spend most of my time talking about you, the entrepreneur and budding author reading this blog. I want to focus on your goals and how we can make them a reality. But people always ask about me. So in this video, I’m going to answer those questions, and tell you what I love to write!
I'm Liz, the writer behind Green Goose Ghostwriting. I help entrepreneurs who want to write a book to demonstrate authority in their niche and get more speaking engagements.
Why does anyone care?
Ghostwriting is a very personal endeavor. It requires the author (you) trust the writer (me) with your half-formed, rambling thoughts that might look messy and confusing. And it’s a big deal to show someone the behind-the-scenes workings of your brain.
You need to feel comfortable with whoever you work with, so you can open up and share everything in your noggin, and know there’s no judgment, just respect.
Experienced publishers understand this. They know they’ll get the best results when by partnering an author with a ghostwriter they trust, someone they feel “gets them.”
Last week, I had a publisher reach out to introduce themselves and talk about potentially working together. I’ve had a few of these conversations recently, and there’s a common theme… they always want to know, What are you passionate about?
This is what I tell them…
As well as a writer with over a decade of experience, I'm proud to be a business owner, equal rights and mental health advocate, life-long learner, traveler, outdoor adventurer, wife, and mom.
I volunteered for several years on our regional suicide prevention hotline, where I was brutally exposed to the mental health issues that haunt so many people. I learned to hear what someone is really trying to say, even when they can't find the right words. I saw how to hold a person's pain and help them find positive stories that could change their perspective so they could focus on a future of possibility.
I use those same skills to draw out the treasure in an author's story, so they can connect, inspire others, and change lives with their message.
I love working with those who share my concern for a fair society that values equality and diversity. Respect for others—regardless of gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, religious beliefs, or anything else—is an essential part of my philosophy.
I'm particularly excited to work on books that explore these concepts and help promote good in the world. I want to be part of the answer, someone who tips the scales toward a better world.
Personal and professional development is another area that gets me all psyched up. I'm an entrepreneur who owns two successful, service-based businesses with my husband, and am continually up-leveling my business and marketing skills through self-help books, podcasts, and every audiobook I can get my grubby hands on.
I also continue to learn in more formal settings; Beyond my post-graduate degree in journalism, I've nabbed further education qualifications from Cornell University and other business and writing authorities.
I firmly believe jumping on a jet plane is one of the best methods of personal development. Originally from England, I traveled to more than 30 countries and worked in France, Austria, and New Zealand before settling in a small ski town in the Canadian Rockies.
As well as travel, I enjoy skiing, hiking, rowing our boat after the engine’s crapped out on us again, camping trips, and getting hopelessly lost on logging roads with my husband, our son, and our chocolate lab.
(Keep reading below to see what this means for your work.)
But what about your work?
You might be sitting there thinking, “F*ck. She didn’t mention my industry. She doesn’t know anything about business leadership/holistic practices/being a life coach/this cool thing I do.”
It’s okay. Take a breath and read this very important information:
You are the expert in what you do. I am the expert for all the writing stuff.
This is so important I’m saying it again: You’re the expert in what you do. I’m the expert for all the writing stuff.
Two zones of genius
A good ghostwriter will never put their own content into their client’s book. I use my understanding of what makes for good non-fiction, how long your chapters should be, the best sentence structures, and so on. But the content is all about you and your message. When we write together, we’re merging two zones of genius: your knowledge of the subject, and my ability to write a compelling page-turner.
So I don’t need to know all about what you do before we start! It is important I care about what you do and see its value. I do my best work when my client’s world-view aligns with mine.
That’s why I shared what I’m passionate about.
Does your work align with mine?
If your work aligns with my values, and you need help to finally get your book done, get it touch. I’m booking into January right now, so there’s a bit of a wait time and you should reach out sooner rather than later. I’d love to chat about your project. Hit me up here.
