If that's what you're thinking about me, fair enough! You are a smart cookie to question the randos you meet on the internet. Go, you! Here's my answer...
Liz Green, your book coach and editor
That’s me! I’m Liz Green, the book coach and editor behind Green Goose Writing.
I work with first-time writers who have been through something, and want to write a book about it to help others. But they don’t know where to startor get stuck trying to put the words on the page.
I help them finally write their memoir or self-help book, so they can share their experience and pay it forward.
I’ve written 16 books, taught college writing classes, and edited countless manuscripts to help people share their messages. And here's what I've learned:
You CAN do this.
You can figure out what this idea is (even if you're worried it might be nothing). You can write your book and feel proud of sharing your words with the world.
I know because I have helped approximately a sqajillion writers do this.
(A sqajillion is the official metric measurement, in case you were wondering.)
One of those writers was Denise.
Are you like Denise?
Do you keep struggling to write alone?
Because that’s what we think, right? "I should be able to write this book on my own." And we try to force ourselves to sit down, head down at the computer.
That’s what Denise was doing when she sent me this email.
"I have the skeleton and some draft chapters of a self-help book. I have been fiddling around with it for over 3 years now and it's annoying me.
"I do want to finish my book as a means of supporting my work (I'm a coach) but I feel stuck and I think I need an external expert to help me take it over the line." —Denise
Maybe you can relate? Maybe you don’t even have as much as her written yet but you know what she’s feeling.
Alone can work
Doing it alone can work. People do it.
But...
When you don’t know what you’re doing, it takes so much time. And it costs your sanity when you’re going round and round in circles.
A lot of people end up giving up, which literally costs them their dream.
There is another way, though, and it’s what Denise did.
Another way
You can get support and get it done. Because it doesn’t have to be so hard.
I mean, we’re still writing a book—it’s never going to be effortless. (Sorry to burst that bubble!)
But honestly, it doesn’t need to be so miserable.
Or lonely.
You can commit fully to writing your book, use a step-by-step plan to make the most of your time, and write with support.
Thats what Denise did.
In less than a year
Less than a year after sending me that email, she got support, we worked together, she wrote the book, finished it, and got it published.
Her book is now available on Amazon UK, and helps support her coaching business and her greater calling in life.
It's called Anthology: How the Stories We Tell Shape Who We Become by Denise McGahan.
And it's really good. I am so proud of her.
Here I am proudly showing off my copy of the book.
(AND the lovely lady was kind enough to include this note in the book's acknowledgments.)
For those of you with screen readers, it says, "I was so lucky to find a brilliant book coach and editor in Liz Green who dusted me off after those stagnant years and set me on my feet again. Thank you, Liz, for encouraging me to be brave."
Find someone to dust you off
The point of this is not to blow my own trumpet or even Denise's. (Although we ARE pretty trumpet-worthy, if I say so myself! We all deserve trumpets.)
The point is to show that YOU CAN DO THIS. You might just need someone to pick you up and dust you off, like Denise.
Because you don't have to do it alone.
You don't need ME, necessarily. You just need someone you vibe with who knows about books and is willing to help you.
If that's me, great! If not, that's okay too. Just please don't struggle alone anymore.
So who am I?!
I am the person who picks you up and dusts you off.
I am the book coach and editor who lives to do this work. For Denise. For you. For anyone who has been through something, and wants to write a book about it to help others.
And I would love to know who you are! Please message me and let me know a bit about you. I will personally reply.
Thanks,
Liz "That's Me!" Green
